IDEA GENERATION

Image
As a creative student, having new ideas and a wide imagination is key to being successful within my work. If you're a creator yourself, you'll know that good ideas don't come instantly, but overnight or over a long period of time, and therefore you have to be patient and let your mind work at it's own pace. However, I personally have a few ways I like to encourage my ideas... Firstly, I think it's important to keep yourself educated on a wide variety of topics, nothing specific, just anything that interests you - read books and articles, watch films and documentaries, watch the news, buy new magazines, even try researching a random topic when you're bored. Being open minded and retaining knowledge feeds your mind and opens new doors, helping to generate a creative mind. Another method I like is cutting myself off from the world and letting my mind work naturally on it's own with no distractions. For example, when i'm in the shower I often find myself

FASHION AND SUSTAINABILITY: ARE YOU REALLY AWARE?

Image
After watching Sarah Dooley's investigation on 'Fashion's Dirty Secrets', I have been concerned with the major effects that the fashion industry has on our planet and how little percentage of the population are actually educated on this topic, which has urged me to blog about the subject. A shocking fact that many people are unaware of is that the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world after coal and oil production. Overall, the phenomenon of fast fashion (companies such as Asos and Primark) is most to blame for the enormity of the garment industry's impact. The fast fashion industry brings us clothes at such a rapid rate, causing companies to have as many collections as 50+ a year rather than the traditional standard 4 seasonal collections; ask yourself, is this really necessary? Being such a dynamic industry, our demand for instant new releases to keep us up to date with the latest trends means that the high-street brands that we&

REBEL: A TREND STORY PROJECT

Image
Rebel: a term that signifies defiance, innovation, eccentricity and risk-taking. Rebelling is the fertilisation that leads to the birth of new trends in fashion, lifestyle, emotions, intellect and spirituality. Without rebellion, change would not exist, and without change, what really are we? Perhaps when you think of the term 'rebel', you instantly think of youth, grunge and bad behaviour, but it has a much broader meaning than this. From a social perspective, I have explored how rebelling has shaped the way we live today. Various aspects of history such as laws preventing homosexuality and women wearing trousers have been abolished globally due to people rebelling. I find it extremely interesting how much equality, acceptance and freedom has been created in our world because of this behaviour. From a fashion perspective, rebelling creates new trends and is therefore vital in such a dynamic industry. When a trend is born and fresh it is rebellious in the sense that it i

THE COLOUR BLACK

Image
Forever, black has been a dominant colour, evoking strong emotions and having more power than any other colour, and too much can even be overwhelming to us as it creates a simple sense of nothingness.  A classic colour for typography and clothing, being able to communicate polar themes: sophistication and class, or evil and negativity, or death, with the collaborative ability to combine with any other colour successfully, and the ability to create illusion such as making us appear slimmer. As a colour, black has authority in many senses, but what goes dismissed is that black is not really a colour, which is where the 'fake colour' concept is introduced - If we take a scientific approach to this topic, physics explains how a colour is visible light with a specific wavelength, which black does not have. Therefore, black is simply absence of light, and behaves ignorantly in this sense. Whilst red, yellow and blue are true physical colours, black is an outcast. I find it intrigui
