IDEA GENERATION

As a creative student, having new ideas and a wide imagination is key to being successful within my work. If you're a creator yourself, you'll know that good ideas don't come instantly, but overnight or over a long period of time, and therefore you have to be patient and let your mind work at it's own pace. However, I personally have a few ways I like to encourage my ideas...

Firstly, I think it's important to keep yourself educated on a wide variety of topics, nothing specific, just anything that interests you - read books and articles, watch films and documentaries, watch the news, buy new magazines, even try researching a random topic when you're bored. Being open minded and retaining knowledge feeds your mind and opens new doors, helping to generate a creative mind.

Another method I like is cutting myself off from the world and letting my mind work naturally on it's own with no distractions. For example, when i'm in the shower I often find myself reflecting on my day and finding solutions. Coffee shop trips and evening/morning walks also work, allowing you to think in peace.

Lastly, collect your own resources - imagery, screenshots of something you've seen on your phone that you found notable, something strange you've seen in the street, quotes on your phone notes. Although this may seem useless, you will find yourself using them as the basis of a project or new idea at some point. Perhaps even make a folder for this content and flick through it when your mind is a little
dry.

Experiment with these methods and discover what works best for you.
