REBEL: A TREND STORY PROJECT

Rebel: a term that signifies defiance, innovation, eccentricity and risk-taking. Rebelling is the fertilisation that leads to the birth of new trends in fashion, lifestyle, emotions, intellect and spirituality. Without rebellion, change would not exist, and without change, what really are we?

Perhaps when you think of the term 'rebel', you instantly think of youth, grunge and bad behaviour, but it has a much broader meaning than this.

From a social perspective, I have explored how rebelling has shaped the way we live today. Various aspects of history such as laws preventing homosexuality and women wearing trousers have been abolished globally due to people rebelling. I find it extremely interesting how much equality, acceptance and freedom has been created in our world because of this behaviour.

From a fashion perspective, rebelling creates new trends and is therefore vital in such a dynamic industry. When a trend is born and fresh it is rebellious in the sense that it is followed by a small majority of people, however when the trend grows, it may become so popular that it is normalised and becomes cliché - a common pattern I have noticed within my research. This made me ask the question: to what extent is rebelling rebellious?
